Blackberry recently launched a marketing campaign to promote their tablet called the Blackberry Playbook. It is appropriately named The Blackberry Playbook Tour. They have employed the use of a semi-truck to share the experience of the Playbook. This is a really unique marketing campaign. Blackberry has attempted to utilize QR Code technology to promote the tour. Unfortunately, like many other QR Code campaigns it is done completely wrong.
The first and most vital mistake that Blackberry has made is the fact that they pointed their QR Code to a traditional URL. If we have said it once we’ve said it a million times DO NOT point your QR code to your URL. It is way too hard to navigate on a smart phone. As you can see from the picture, the site is not even translating
well in a smart phone browser. Personally, If I wasn’t writing this review I would of given up on navigating the site from the start. They should of had a custom Smart Site built.
The second mistake I see is that there is no way for Blackberry to build their list. My main question is why is there not a way to enter to win a Playbook on the site? They have a HUGE brand name to stand behind, they could be building their list like crazy!
The third mistake I see is the fact their Social Media icons are extremely small AND I had to scroll to the right to see them. Personally, I don’t have that much patience. Just like most of the society, if I have to work at it I’m over it.
All In all, Blackberry could of and should of KILLED this QR Code campaign…but they didn’t. Hopefully those of you researching QR Codes can learn from Blackberry’s mistake and have a really successful campaign. If you’re looking for a company that builds customized smart sites visit www.PointScanGo.com. They build custom sites for ONLY $249! – Blackberry definitely could of pulled together $249!
